Bidding for the 2020 ITTF World Junior Circuit is now OPEN!
ITTF World Junior Circuit:
The first year of the ITTF World Junior Circuit was 2002. Four events were staged; the first being in Platja d’Aro Spain, Canada’s Bence Csaba won the Boys’ Singles event, the counterpart Girls’ Singles title was secured by Japan’s Sayaka Hirano. Later in the year Yang Xiaofu and Peng Luyang won the respective titles on home soil in China at the Taiyuan International Open; whilst in Fort Lauderdale, the winners in the United States were Canada’s Bence Csaba and Japan’s Ai Fukuhara.
The fourth on the list was held Lima, Peru in mid-September; Brazil’s Gustavo Tsuboi was crowned Boys’ Singles champion, the Girls’ Singles winner was Hungary’s Georgina Pota.
Notably both Sayaka Hirano and Ai Fukuhara were members of the Japanese team that won silver at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the first ever table tennis medal for Japan at the prestigious quadrennial event.
Furthermore, An Jaehyun, who had recently beaten all odds and clinched the bronze medal in 2019 World Championships, was ranked fifth position in the World Junior Ranking U18 and was nicknamed “doubles master” in Junior Events. The Cadet Girls’ Singles event in 2013 also witnessed the success of Adriana Diaz; in 2019, she became the first Latin American to reach the third round of Women’s Single Event in history of World Championships.
Since 2002, more than 500 World Junior Circuit events are organized across the world.
